Stretch Marks Treatment
Stretch marks are ruptures in the skin resulting from rapid stretching and/or hormonal changes. Under the microscope, stretch marks look very similar to scars, but with more thinning and loss of elastic fibers. Treatments that stimulate collagen can improve the appearance of stretch marks.
The Cosmetic and Skin Surgery Center now offers the best possible technology for improving the appearance of stretch marks.
Our protocol involves a combination of the Mixto laser (nonablative fractionated resurfacing) and YAG-laser toning. This combination results in the most new collagen. The collagen appears gradually; so for the best results, a series of treatments are given over several months.
You are a candidate for treatment if you have stretch marks that are:
- Older than six months
- Skin-colored, pale, or dark
- Have abnormal texture (crinkles, thinning, etc.) compared to the surrounding skin
If you have new, red stretch marks, then these can be lightened with our vascular laser.
Unfortunately, just like with scars, we do not feel that creams make any noticeable difference for stretch marks.
