Rhinoplasty

Everyone has a nose, but you don’t necessarily have to keep the one you’ve had from birth.  That’s the beauty of Rhinoplasty, and Dr. Wyatt To’s expertise and training ensure beautiful and natural-looking results every time.

The Rhinoplasty Advantage

Rhinoplasty, or reshaping of the nose, is one of the most popular facial plastic surgery procedures in the U.S.  With more than 15 years of experience in private practice and as the co-author of the textbook Open Structure Rhinoplasty–A Case Study Approach, Dr. Wyatt To is uniquely qualified in Rhinoplasty and cosmetic nasal surgery.

The structure of your nose provides support to the overlaying skin and muscle.  These components are unique to you.  Therefore, Dr. To will address the best outcome for your result in your initial consultation.  He’ll particularly discuss how excessive reduction of the nose and its supporting structures are an error he won’t make.  You’ve probably seen ‘nose jobs’ like this in the media:  ‘operated noses’ that look too thin or have a collapsed appearance.  Dr. To’s Rhinoplasty results are consistently beautiful and truly ‘fit your face’.

Here’s What Rhinoplasty Can Do For You:

  • Make your nose look better by removing unwanted genetic or familial characteristics
    • Bumps, humps, slopes, bulbous tips, etc.
  • Repair damage from trauma
    • Car accidents, sports trauma, and more can cause unplanned and irregular shapes
  • Improve your quality of life by fixing interior structural issues (deviated septum, etc.)

What are the goals of Rhinoplasty surgery?

Our goal should match yours:  Create a well-structured, functional, attractive and natural-appearing nose that ‘fits’ your face.

What is the “down time” for Rhinoplasty?

You’ll experience bruising and swelling around the operated area for up to a week.  Most patients are able to return to work approximately 4-10 days after the surgery.

How uncomfortable is Rhinoplasty surgery?

You should experience very little pain during or after surgery.  Medication for discomfort is prescribed; however, you may require nothing more than Extra Strength Tylenol for the majority of the post-operative period.

What sort of anesthesia is used?

Your Rhinoplasty will be completed under general anesthesia.  Your safety and comfort are our primary consideration, so be sure to discuss this topic with Dr. To at your initial consultation.

What sort of pre-operative evaluation will I need?

Routine medical clearance from your primary care physician and standard laboratory tests are required.  It will also be necessary for you to avoid certain medications:  aspirin, herbal remedies and alcohol for 14 days prior to your surgery.

Will I have incisions after my Rhinoplasty?

Most of the incisions are hidden within the nose. If necessary, you may have a small external incision on your columella, the structure at the base of your nose, between the nostrils. This incision typically heals very well and soon becomes almost unnoticeable. Dr. To will show you examples of the incision during your consultation.

Will I have a cast after my Rhinoplasty?

After surgery, tape and a small external cast will be placed on your nose. Internal splints may be placed if Dr. To determine they’re necessary. Nasal packing is usually not required. Your sutures are removed 3-5 days after your surgery and cosmetic tape will be applied at that time.  Your cast will be removed after 6-8 days.  Pain is usually minimal and most of our patients return to work a few days after surgery.

What sort of results can I expect from my Rhinoplasty?

Realistic expectations about what can be achieved with Rhinoplasty are of utmost importance. You’ll have an open line of communication with Dr. To throughout your consultation and planning process. The goal should be improvement rather than perfection.

It should be noted that extreme changes in the appearance of your nose are typically not recommended or achievable.  Dr. To will address your concerns and goals during your consultation.

Is Rhinoplasty covered by insurance?

Surgery that is done for purely cosmetic reasons is typically not covered by insurance.
