Here’s What Blepharoplasty Can Do For You:

  • Boost your self-confidence
  • Improve your ability to apply and visualize eye make-up
  • Improve your peripheral vision
  • Restore the reflection you remember and love
  • Remove unwanted fullness and puffiness from above and below your eyes
  • Reduce sagging skin from above and below your eyes

Am I A Good Candidate For Blepharoplasty?
If you can answer ‘yes’ to one or more of these questions, you might be a great candidate for Blepharoplasty

  • Do you feel like your eyes are heavier-looking by the end of the day?
  • When you apply eye make-up, does it disappear from view?
  • By the end of the day, do you feel the need to lift your eyelids to see better?
  • Do your eyelids make it more difficult for you to see?
  • Do your family or friends ever ask if you’re mad or tired when you feel just fine?

Details

Aside from the routine medical clearance from your primary care doctor and standard laboratory tests, you’ll also need evaluation of vision and eye health by your ophthalmologist.

It is also necessary for you to avoid certain medications, aspirin, herbal remedies and alcohol for 14 days prior to surgery.

In our office, Blepharoplasty is typically done with local anesthetic without intra-venous sedation. General anesthesia may occasionally be used as dictated by a person’s preference. Your safety and comfort is our primary consideration, so be sure to discuss this issue with Dr. To at your initial consultation.

For the upper lid, your incisions are made within the individual lines and creases of the lid.  This ensures that the scars will be more effectively concealed within the natural folds of your eyelid.

For the lower lid, excess fat is typically removed through a transconjunctival approach, where the incision is made inside the lower eyelid.  This incision cannot be seen from the outside.

Excess skin below your eyes may be removed directly, keeping your incision running in any pre-existing lines and creases. The incisions are closed with very fine sutures which are removed 3-5 days after surgery.  This will optimize your healing and minimize the incision thickness as it heals.

You should experience very little pain during or after surgery.  Medication for discomfort is prescribed; however, you may require nothing more than Tylenol for the majority of the post-operative period.

Excess fat removed from the lids typically does not return; however, your skin will continue to age and stretch naturally. A secondary procedure is usually not necessary.

After surgery, you are typically allowed to return home for recovery. We recommend that you use cool compresses to decrease swelling and discomfort.

Your sutures are removed 3-5 days after surgery and cosmetic tape will be applied at that time. Pain is usually minimal and most of our patients return to work a few days after surgery.

Some degree of bruising around the eyes and swelling of the tissues can be expected.

Blepharoplasty cannot raise sagging eyebrows, nor can it remove dark circles, fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes. Additional complementary procedures may be necessary to achieve maximal results.

Surgery that is done for cosmetic reasons is typically not covered by insurance.  As Dr. To is a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, your surgery will be out-of-pocket.  Please discuss financial options or concerns with us during your initial consultation.
