The Light Mixto benefits the following skin conditions:
- Acne scars
- Dark spots, sun spots (lentigines) melasma, hyperpigmentation
- Surgical scars
- Uneven skin tone and texture
If you’re looking for maximum results from a laser resurfacing treatment with minimum downtime, our Light Mixto is the answer for you. This rejuvenating procedure will make your skin look smoother, softer, and brighter in a matter of days to weeks. We love it!
For the Light Mixto, we use a dense application of high energy laser dots. The results are beautiful, noticeable, and the downtime is minimal. For patients who prefer Light Mixto, we recommend a habit of yearly or twice yearly peels for optimum skin health benefits.
What is a Light Mixto?
For our Light Mixto, we use the Mixto laser by Lasering USA. This is a carbon dioxide laser that vaporizes the outer layer of skin cells while creating residual thermal change in the remaining skin. This means new skin cells form and new collagen builds up.
The Mixto is a fractionated laser which peels skin cells by vaporizing tiny dots instead of removing everything. This means faster healing and less risk. For the Light Mixto, the laser settings are considered to be medium intensity and density.
What is the treatment like?
On the day of the treatment, we apply a numbing mask and have you relax in our office for about two hours. Then, we remove the mask and our provider pulses the desired areas with the Mixto laser.
A full face takes about 20 minutes for each pass. The total treatment time depends on how aggressive you want to be. Pain during the procedure is very well controlled by the numbing mask. In addition, we provide oral medications for patients who feel anxious.
What is the downtime?
After a treatment your skin quickly becomes red, swollen and moist, followed by a period of peeling and healing. Total downtime depends on how aggressive you want to be. Lighter peels take 4-5 days to heal. For a Custom Mixto with deeper pulses, healing takes one to two weeks.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments depends on your goals. After the initial healing phase, you will notice immediate improvement in the appearance of your skin. Further improvements gradually occur as the collagen remodels.
We recommend re-evaluation at six months to see if a second treatment is desired. For patients that use the Light Mixto to maintain their skin, we recommend a treatment once or twice a year.
What are the risks?
Most reactions to the treatment are temporary, as described above. Serious complications are rare but possible. There are rare reports of infections, persistent redness, temporary or permanent pigment changes (lightening or darkening of the skin), and scarring.
What if I have small areas of greater concern, such as acne scars or surgical scars?
Our Light Mixto can be customized to allow for focused areas of deeper pulses with the laser. This will stimulate greater healing and better results to meet your goals. This option is called our Custom Mixto.
